When you are selling your home, and you have a sign outside, you need to be a little more cautious than you might think.

When people see a sign outside a house, they feel that gives them the right to start walking around your home.

I had a seller complain that she was taking a nap one afternoon, to be awoken by people peering through her sliding door, staring right at her.

I had another seller call to tell me that she left her door unlocked, and was in her bathroom, when she heard voices. She walked out of her bathroom/bedroom, to find five people standing in her living room, asking to see the house. She immediately escorted them out, asking them to make an appointment with me, her REALTOR®.

So, if you are interested in a home, be respectful of the homeowner. Just because there is a sign out front, it does not give you the right to poke around someone’s home.

And if you are listing your house, keep your doors locked and your blinds closed if you are sleeping!
